چکیده

We estimated the dependence of the perceived depth on luminance ratio by increasing the distance between the front and rear planes of a depth-fused 3-D (DFD) display. When the distance is great, the perceived depth has the tendency of nonlinear dependence on luminance ratio, which is very different from the almost linear dependence in a shortdistance conventional DFD display. In a long-distance DFD display, the perceived depth is split to near the front plane at 0–40% of the rear luminance, near the rear plane at 70–100%, and the midpoint of the front and rear planes at 40–60%. Thus, the luminance-ratio dependence of perceived depth changes widely with the distance. key words: 3-D display, 3-D visual illusion, luminance ratio, depth-fused3D

Achieving near-correct focus cues in a 3D display using multiple image planes

Focus cues specify inappropriate 3-D scene parameters in conventional displays because the light comes from a single surface, independent of the depth relations in the portrayed scene. This can lead to distortions in perceived depth, as well as discomfort and fatigue due to the differing demands on accommodation and vergence. Here we examine the efficacy of a stereo-display prototype designed t...

Perceived afterimage size in depth cue-conflict condition

In depth cue-conflict conditions, various depth cues could represent different extents of depth. Previous studies have investigated the perceived size of negative afterimage in depth cue-correlated conditions in which different cues introduce almost the same amounts of depth to the visual system. This study examined the perceived size of the afterimage in the human observers in a condition that...

Rear-screen and kinesthetic vision 3D manipulator

Background: The effective 3D manipulation, comprehension, and control of 3D objects on computers are well-established lasting problems, which include a display aspect, a control aspect, and a spatial coupling between control input and visual output aspect, which is a debatable issue. Most existing control interfaces are located in front of the display. This requires users to imagine that manipu...

Focus cues affect perceived depth School of Psychology , University of Wales , Bangor , United Kingdom

Depth information from focus cuesVaccommodation and the gradient of retinal blurVis typically incorrect in threedimensional (3-D) displays because the light comes from a planar display surface. If the visual system incorporates information from focus cues into its calculation of 3-D scene parameters, this could cause distortions in perceived depth even when the 2-D retinal images are geometrica...
